Ingredients
- 1 chicken (cut into pieces)
- 1 cup fried onions
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup grounded tin tomato
- Juice of half a small lemon (3 tsps)
- 1 1/2 tsps coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp saffron
- 2 tsps ginger garlic
- 5 tbsps oil
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1 level tsp red chilli powder
- 1 taj (cinnamon stick)
- 2 lawing (cloves)
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- Green chillies to taste
- 2 whole green chillies
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- Handful chopped coriander
- shaan bombay biryani mix to taste (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups rice
- 3 level tsps salt
- Fried onions
- butter/ghee
Method
- Recite Bismillah.
- Marinate chicken in listed ingredients for a few hours.
- Boil rice till half cooked with the salt . (about 5-6 mins)
- Line a small pot with foil in such a way that you will then be able to cover the biryani at the end.
- Add a few small knobs of butter/ ghee to the bottom of the pot.
- Now add half the rice.
- Add all of the chicken.
- Then layer the remaining rice.
- Sprinkle fried onions & few knobs of butter / ghee.
- Sprinkle 3/4 cup water over the rice.
- Seal the biryani with the foil & then a tight lid.
- Cook on high heat for 5 mins till steam releases.
- Then cook on medium heat for 10 mins.
- Finally cook on low heat with a flat skillet underneath for an hour. Place something heavy on lid as this will stop the steam from escaping the pot. Enjoy!
