Method Of Salaah For Women

“In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”

There is a difference in the salaah of men & women. There are numerous hadiths of Rasulullah ﷺ, and many statements of the Sahaba (companions of the Prophet ﷺ) & Tabi’in (people who came after the sahabas) which prove that a woman should offer her prayer in a concealing manner.

Method

1. Make intention (no need to say it verbally).  Keep your feet together & keep your eyes on the spot where the head will be in sajdah position, this will avoid distraction. One wisdom of not allowing your eyes to wander in salaah is that even outside salaah it will protect one from looking at haraam.

2. Raise your hands, ensuring the fingers are together till the shoulders saying:

Allahu Akbar

(Allah  is the Greatest)

3. Then tie the hands on the chest, placing the left hand on the bottom & the palm of the right hand on the back of the left hand, keeping the fingers together. Again throughout qiyaam (standing position), keep the eyes focused on the place of sajdah.

4. Then recite Thana:

Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabaarakasmuka, wa ta’aalaa jadduka, wa laa ‘ilaaha ghayruk.

(Glory is to You O Allah, and praise. Blessed is Your Name and Exalted is Your Majesty. There is none worthy of worship but You).

5. Then recite Ta’awwudh:

A’uudhu billaahi minash shaytaanirrajeem

(I seek protection in Allah from shaytan, the accursed one).

6. Then recite Tasmiyah:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

(In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful).

7. Then recite Surah Fatihah & any other Surah you know off by heart.

8. Go down into rukhu (bowing position) saying:

Allahu Akbar

(Allah  is the Greatest)

9. Women should only bend so much that their hands can touch their knees. The fingers will be kept together & the elbows will be kept close together  touching the sides of the body. In the ruku position keep the eyes focused on the toes.

10. Recite the tasbeeh of rukhu at least 3 times (one may increase in odd numbers i.e 5,7 etc):

Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem”

(Glory be to my Lord, the Almighty)

11. Stand up straight saying Tasmee:

Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah

(God hears those who praise Him)

12. Once you have stood up straight, recite the tahmeed:

Rabbana lakal Hamd

(Oh our Lord, all praise is to You)

13. Then go into sajdah (prostration) saying takbeer:

Allahu Akbar

(Allah  is the Greatest)

14. First place the knees, then the hands, then the nose & lastly the forehead on the ground. The eyes should be in level to the thumbs.  Bring the feet towards the right, with the toes facing the qibla. A woman will prostate keeping all her limbs close together, her buttocks as low as possible and arms close to her body.  In sajdah keep the eyes focused on the nose.

15. Recite the tasbeeh of sajdah at least 3 times (one may increase in odd numbers i.e 5,7 etc):

Subhana Rabbiyal Ala

(Glory be to my Lord, the Most High)

16. Then sit up saying the takbeer in the order of the forehead first, then the nose, then the hands:

Allahu Akbar

(Allah  is the Greatest)

17. Sit on the left bottom with the feet towards the right, toes facing qibla, with the hands placed on the thighs, keeping the fingers together & eyes focused on the lap.

18. Then go into the second sajdah saying the takbeer & recite the tasbeeh of sajdah at least 3 times (one may increase in odd numbers i.e 5,7 etc):

Subhana Rabbiyal Ala

(Glory be to my Lord, the Most High)

19. Then stand up straight from the sajdah reciting the takbeer. First lifting the forehead, then the nose, hands & knees. (Do not place the hands on the floor without any need whilst getting up, instead rest them on the knees).

20. Pray the second rakaah as the first without reciting Thanaa & Ta’awwudh. Start with Tasmiyah, followed by surah fatihaha & any other surah you know off by heart.

21. After the second sajdah, sit in Qaaidah position. Again, sit on the left bottom with the feet towards the right, toes facing qibla, with the hands placed on the thighs, keeping the fingers together & eyes focused on the lap.

22. Recite Tashahud:

At Tahyatu lillahi was Salawatu wat Tayyibatu.

(All compliments, prayers and beautiful expressions are for God. Peace be on you, O Messenger, and God’s mercy and blessings. Peace be on us and on all righteous servants of God. I bear witness that no one is worthy of worship except God. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger).

When you come to the words:

Use the right hand to form a circle with the middle finger & thumb & Raise your index finger enough for it to face qibla.  Put it down upon reciting (however the circle with the middle finger & thumb will be kept till the end of salaah) :

 23. Recite Durood:

Allahumma Salli Ala Muhammad wa Ala Ali Muhammad, Kama Sallayta Ala Ibrahima Wa ala Ali Ibrahima innaka Hameedum Majeed

Allahumma Barik Ala Muhammad wa Ala Ali Muhammad, Kama Barakta Ala Ibrahima Wa ala Ali Ibrahima innaka Hameedum Majeed

(My God, honor Muhammad and Muhammad’s family as you honoured Abraham and Abraham’s family Surely, you are praiseworthy, the Great My God, bless Muhammad and Muhammad’s family as you blessed Abraham and Abraham’s family Surely, you are praiseworthy, the Great).

24. After durood, one may recite any dua from the quraan or hadiths. Any dua that resembles the speech of people will not be permissible for e.g “O Allah get me married”.

There are some specific duas mentioned in the hadith, most well known one being:

Allahumma Inni Zalamtu Nafsi Zulman Kaseeran La Yaghfiruz Zunooba illa anta faghfirli maghfiratun min indika warhamni innaka antal ghafoorur Raheem

(O Allah, I have greatly wronged myself and no one forgives sins but You.

So, grant me forgiveness and have mercy on me. Surely, you are Forgiving, Merciful)

25. Now end your salaah by firstly turning to the right saying the following words & then to the left saying the following words:

Asslamualaikum Wa rahmatullah

(God’s peace and blessings be upon you).

Whilst doing salaam look at your shoulders & make the intention of doing salaam to the angels.

One of the times of acceptance of duas is after salaah. It is sunnah to raise the hands & make dua after salaah & ask Allah for all your needs.

The above is the method of 2 rakaats salaah. Details regarding performing different amounts & types of rakaats will be explained further.
